2010 STEP UP FOR THE ARC WALKATHON WAS ANOTHER SUCCESS!

On Saturday, May 22nd, the 2010 Step Up for The Arc Walkathon was held at Roosevelt Park in Edison, with many Arc members, employees, participants, volunteers and supporters in attendance. All came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and the festivities taking place, but most importantly to support The Arc of Middlesex.

Volunteers have always been essential in making the event run smoothly. This year we were lucky enough to welcome a group from Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks program. They were helping with registration, passing out t-shirts and goody bags, and very enthusiastically selling raffle tickets! They were a great addition to this year’s Walk!

We were also fortunate to have DJ Eddie from We Got the Beat DJ’s volunteer to play music at this year’s event. The music did a great job of relaxing everyone and set the mood of the event perfectly! Some very brave people even participated in karaoke!

Representatives from the Sheriff’s Department and TheraPet, an organization providing Pet Therapy, were present. Games and activities were set up for all to enjoy. Face painting was also offered. Everyone enjoyed seeing Sparkee of the Somerset Patriots, ChaCha of The Rainforest Café, and Sparky the Firedog. The three were seen dancing, receiving hugs, and getting their pictures taken with Walk participants of all ages.

Many people are to thank for making the 2010 Walkathon another success. A very special thank you goes out to all of our sponsors, those who donated to the raffle and goody bags, and all of those who donated their time prior to the Walk and those who helped to set up, keep the Walk running smoothly, and help pack up the day of the Walk.

Most of all thank you to everyone who attended. Thanks to your generosity we were able to raise over $25,000 for The Arc of Middlesex! While smiles were spread across everyone’s face, no one forgot the reason we all gathered together, to show our support and continue to educate the public about people with intellectual disabilities!
